I mentioned previously that I was having difficulty getting into a crucial class. Well, this is an update on that. I was sitting in the library and clickin' about the net and decided to check for the 1,254,548,756,418,121,986,128,521,528th time (or around that) to see if the class was open. Turns out, it was. I click on the button saying "Register" expecting total "WIN!" All I got was epic "FAIL!" Turns out that doing this would exceed the maximum hours I'm allowed this semester.
I ended up reluctantly dropping ANTH 2020 (Intro to Cultural Anthropology) to make room for the new class. It depresses me because I like Anthropology enough that I want to see how far I can take it. I still love chemistry more than anthropology, but I could see myself getting a minor. I went to my Anthropology class anyway and my professor asked whether I was going to audit, since I dropped off the roster. I explained the situation, and told her I'd try to hop back into the class after talking to the people over in Student Advisement. I want to see if they'll make an exception. My grades last semester were great, and one of the classes I took was also an Anthropology class withe same professor.
I think I can get away with it. The real problem is labs. They suck up an hour each. Don't get me wrong, experimentation is my favorite part of science. I tend not to feel the labs as requiring effort because I live for bench work. One finds that labs are easy if you pay attention, work quickly, and don't break too much glassware (which was a consistent problem with me in my last lab- I don't know why. That volumetric flask was expensive.) I actually shouldn't mention my clumsiness lest someone with big expensive machines decides I may not be the best candidate for undergrad research. Though I will point out that I didn't get clumsy until last semester, the lab itself was very cramped and I wasn't alone in the breakage department.
We'll see how it goes with getting approved for what turns out to be just one more hour. If I can't get in officially, I'm not going to sit in on lectures (though the prof is okay with it). If I'm going to do the work, I want to get credit for it. I may try again next semester.
